Using Children's Books in High School
Thursday June 5, 2025 10:00am - 10:50am MDT
Secondary teachers: Come and brainstorm how to use children's books in your classroom to cultivate a positive learning environment, boost engagement, or take a brain break. We always hear that to be a good teacher, you need to be a good story teller...but you don't always have to create something new. We can use picture books to engage our junior high and high school students! Come learn about some of the options, how to work with the school librarian to get your books approved, and how this approach can help teachers of all subject areas add variety to their class routine.

Classroom Management is Not About Rules or Procedures: It's About Engagement
Thursday June 5, 2025 1:00pm - 1:50pm MDT
Effective classroom management is not about controlling students, but about creating conditions that allow for active learning and personal growth. Engagement Enriching Examples: Make It to the Dinner Table!
Thursday June 5, 2025 1:00pm - 1:50pm MDT
Elementary teachers: Come get some ideas about how to make your lessons even more engaging. I will share things you can do to add a little magic to a phonics or reading lesson, games that can be adapted to a wide variety of grades and contents that don’t allow students to get out or lose a turn, and ideas that help make sure every student is involved in learning a new math concept. The goal of this session is to load you with some ideas that feel like they’ll work with the things you already do and will hopefully get students just a little more excited about their school day. We’ll know we were successful when they want to go home and tell their family about it! Let's get our lessons to make it to the dinner table! Students that are excited about being in the classroom will likely have better attendance, better behavior (they just might make a better choice because they don’t want to miss out on your next reading lesson if they know it’s a” Boom Clap Grab” day) and overall better learning!
